How It Works

From choked hydrilla to a clean, usable lake floor.

A professionally installed underwater barrier clears a defined zone around your dock, swim area, or boat slip — with an optional sand finish for a natural, comfortable feel underfoot.

  1. 1. Waterfront assessment

Phil walks your shoreline, measures depth and coverage, and maps pilings, lifts and intake lines. Free, no obligation.
  2. 2. Permit & plan

We prepare the Texas Parks & Wildlife paperwork and a layout sized to how you use the water.
  3. 3. Clear & install

Existing hydrilla is cleared, fragments are bagged and hauled off, and the barrier is laid and anchored.
  4. 4. Optional sand finish

A clean sand layer over the barrier for a natural, comfortable swim-area floor.
Choose Your Finish

Barrier only, or barrier with sand.

Both clear the hydrilla. The sand finish adds a soft, beach-like floor for swim areas and shoreline entries.

Why It Matters

Hydrilla doesn't just look bad — it gets expensive.

  • Dense hydrilla wraps props and lower units, leading to costly repairs.
  • Swim areas and beach entries become unusable by mid-summer.
  • Boat slips and paddleboard launches clog with growth season after season.
  • Waterfront value and everyday enjoyment both take the hit.

The Result

The waterfront you bought the house for.

Clear water off the dock, room to swim and paddle, and a boat that leaves the slip without dragging weeds.

Protect Your Investment

Fewer weed-fouled props and lower units around your dock.

Swim With Ease

A clear, sandy-feeling floor instead of tangled hydrilla underfoot.

More Time on the Water

Less seasonal maintenance, more usable waterfront, all summer.
Why Lake Floor

Cutting hydrilla is a haircut. We stop it at the floor.

Hydrilla regrows from roots, buried tubers and floating fragments. That's why hand-cutting and pulling have to be repeated every few weeks in summer. A Lake Floor barrier blocks the sunlight the plant needs, so the cleared zone stays clear.

FAQ

Lake Austin hydrilla questions, answered.

How is a lake floor barrier different from cutting or pulling hydrilla?

Cutting and pulling remove what you can see, but hydrilla regrows from roots, buried tubers and loose fragments, often within weeks in summer. A lake floor barrier covers the bottom and blocks sunlight, so the plants underneath can't grow back in that zone.

Is it chemical-free?

Yes. The Lake Floor system is a physical barrier. No herbicides are used. Herbicides aren't permitted on Lake Austin anyway, because the lake supplies the City's drinking-water treatment plants.

Do I need a permit to control hydrilla on Lake Austin?

Yes. Removing or controlling hydrilla in Texas public waters, including installing bottom barriers, requires Texas Parks and Wildlife Department approval. Lake Floor Austin prepares and files the paperwork as part of every project. See our permit guide.

Will it interfere with my dock, boat lift or lake pump?

No. Barriers are cut and fitted around pilings, lift cradles, ladders and intake lines during installation, and the layout is planned during your on-site assessment.
